Set the table for Christmas

With Christmas just a few weeks away, it's time to think about how we're going to set the scene for one of the most important parts of the festive season- Christmas dinner!

I think you will all agree that food is a huge part of the festive season, not only because of all the goodies, but because at this time of year, we get together with our loved ones to eat and all social events seem to revolve around eating and drinking. Let's face it, Christmas is one of the few times that the fancy china makes it out of the cupboard and onto the table! With all that in mind, why not spruce up your dining table to really help make those gatherings special.

Whether it's for two or 10+ people around your table on Christmas day, we've got you covered. Without further ado, here are 4 table setups using Raine & Humble products, complete with centrepieces which you can see how to DIY in the video at the end of the post.

1. Classic

Starting with Gingham/Margherita reversible table runner in whichever colour you want and laid down the centre of the table whichever way up you decide. I chose to use the red one Margherita side up.

Layer white or cream plates so you have a side dish on top of a dinner plate and lay out cutlery and glasses. I used two sets of cutlery, one for starter and one main course.

Fold Gingham napkins as desired, again I used red. Tie raffia around the middle of the napkin and knot around a sprig of rosemary.

Add the Simple centrepiece as a finishing touch and light the candles when ready!

2. Romantic

Start with the Houndstooth Chambray tablecloth in Taupe. *Stylist's tip*use a foam non-slip table protector beneath your table cloths for a fuller and more luxurious finish.

Add your plates, cutlery and glasses. I used glass plates this time.

Put the Gingham Napkins, this time black, into napkin rings and place onto of the plates.

I made my own basic napkin rings to tone with the centrepiece using copper florist's wire and a rolling pin. Coil the wire around the rolling pin as many times as needed to create the desired size (I did 12) and then use wire cutters to cut to length, be careful of sharp edges! Use sandpaper to smooth the ends.

Finish with the Romantic centrepiece.

3. Warm and Fruity

Start with the Houndstooth Chambray tablecloth, this time in Raven.

Add plates, cutlery and glasses as before.

Fold Black Margherita Napkins into a squares and then fold the left and right corners in and place a sprig of faux berries on top (or real one's if you'd prefer).

Place the Fragrant centrepiece on the table and enjoy!

4. Bold and Bright

Our final table setting begins with the Criss Cross Tablecloth in Red.

For this setting, the Elegant Greenery centrepiece must be created in situ before laying the table.

Lay out settings as before, leaving out the cutlery for the time being.

Fold Country Fields Napkins in Red into thirds horizontally, and then in half vertically and lay them in the centre of the plates so that the design is the right way up and with the raw edges at the bottom.

Put the cutlery on top of the napkin.

Voila!

I hope you like these simple yet effective table settings! Each style can be modified to fit any table size, just duplicate the smaller centrepieces for a larger table.

DIY Christmas Table Centrepieces:

Please always be vigilant when burning candles, especially around greenery!

Be careful when using greenery around food as it may be poisonous, so take care not to ingest.

Bon appétit!
